The Cinematic Headshot

The Cinematic Headshot by Dylan Patrick

A Review

The Cinematic Headshot” by Dylan Patrick on www.fstoppers.com is one of the best tutorials I have ever purchased. As I mentioned in a previous post, I struggled to capture truly stunning headshots and often failed to achieve that “wow” factor in my images. However, after buying this tutorial, I was able to create amazing cinematic headshots that make my clients look like movie stars.

Dylan begins his tutorial by introducing himself and explaining how he got into the business of headshot photography.

Later, he demonstrated the equipment he uses to capture his cinematic headshots. I was amazed by the simplicity of his gear and how anyone can create great cinematic headshots on any budget, easily achieving similar results.

He then proceeds to a live photoshoot. He describes how he scouts locations and assembles the gear to photograph the subject or model.

He goes beyond this by including three additional live photoshoots. He explains the differences between various zoom lenses and what each can achieve in terms of cinematic headshots. Additionally, he describes different scenarios in which cinematic headshots can be captured.

He goes on to detail how he composes his images. This chapter is one of the most valuable topics in this tutorial because mastering composition is often quite challenging.

Following that, he performs a comprehensive Photoshop retouching that is straightforward to follow. He also provided RAW files from his photoshoots so you can practice along.

I learned from him that you don’t need a studio to achieve great results; you can do so almost anywhere in the world, for the world is your studio.

The tutorial is strongly recommended for photographers wanting to create something distinctive for their portfolios.

Here are some of the results I achieved after purchasing his tutorial.

After learning and understanding his lighting techniques, I applied them indoors and achieved excellent results.
